A Few Things to Keep in Mind Before Starting Spring Cleaning

While spring cleaning your home, you should always keep a few things in mind. Prioritize labor-intensive tasks over time, less is more, and paper towels are essential. A well-planned strategy is the best way to prevent making common mistakes while spring cleaning. To avoid these, follow these tips. Check them out here.

Less is More

If you’re overwhelmed by a long list of spring cleaning tasks, you might consider renting a heavy-duty vacuum or other cleaning equipment. There are many companies that rent cleaning supplies, which may be helpful for one-time jobs or if you’d like to reduce clutter in your home. Some people even clean with vinegar and baking soda, which are both cheap and effective cleaning ingredients. If you’re really committed to spring cleaning, focus on one room at a time.

You’re probably a fan of sanitizing and reorganizing electronic gadgets, but don’t forget about these items, too. Spring is the perfect time to replace batteries or upgrade outdated systems. Also, consider practicing good cord management and using cable organizers or boxes. And don’t forget to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and your home security system. Make spring cleaning as easy as possible by using a steam cleaner.

Another area to tackle is closet organization. Try using double-decker closet rods or wire shelving units to maximize your closet space. Don’t forget to dust your fireplace, since they get a lot of use. As with any room, your kitchen gets the most traffic, so you should start with this area and work downwards. You can’t forget the recessed lights, moldings, and ceiling fans.

Prioritizing Labor-Intensive Chores

While spring cleaning can be overwhelming, focusing on the major areas of your home can make the biggest impact in the least amount of time. By setting timers, you can make sure you don’t get distracted by other tasks. In addition to keeping you motivated, prioritizing labor-intensive chores will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed. Listed below are some tips for prioritizing the tasks you need to complete.

Ventilation

As spring approaches, you’ll want to do your best to keep the air quality in your home as healthy as possible. While cleaning can be a fun activity, you’ll also be creating a lot of dust. Cleaning products and dust can cause allergy symptoms if you breathe them in. To keep indoor air quality high and protect your lungs, you’ll want to ventilate your house during the spring cleaning process.

While paper towels are an easy way to clean some surfaces, they’re not a good idea in many situations. Not only are they bad for the environment, but they also cause damage to the items they’re cleaning. Instead, use reusable cleaning materials such as microfiber cloths. You’ll save money in the long run, too, and you’ll be doing your part for the environment.

Paper towels aren’t just bad for the environment – they’re also a major contributor to landfill waste. While they’re great for drying up spills, they end up in the trash, causing not only unnecessary waste but also harmful effects on our environment. This is why you should look for reusable cloths when spring cleaning. You can also consider using recycled paper towels if you’re eco-conscious.

One of the biggest mistakes people make while spring cleaning is using too many paper towels. Though they’re extremely useful in certain situations, they should never be used for sanitizing the entire house. Not only is this wasteful, but it’s also ineffective since it leaves behind bits of lint and doesn’t prevent streaks from forming. You can save money on paper towels by choosing reusable cloths.

Opening Windows During the Pollen Season

While spring cleaning your home, you should avoid opening your windows during the pollen season. Pollen can settle in the upholstery, carpets, and other surfaces of your home. This can make allergy sufferers miserable. To reduce the number of allergens in your home and reduce your symptoms, close your windows during allergy season. During this time, keep the windows closed in your car to keep it cool and comfortable for you.

If you have a window covering, consider buying window screens that help trap airborne pollen. There are special window treatments that can trap 96% of the pollen carried by the wind. If you must open windows during allergy season, make sure you purchase these window treatments. Remember that they will only work with certain window types and sizes. For best results, you should clean them according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you do not have a window covering, you can also buy a simple blind that can protect against pollen.

If you are unable to avoid opening windows during pollen season, it may be best to make some changes in your lifestyle now. Asthma sufferers should consult their doctor immediately to find the most effective allergy treatment for them. If your symptoms start early in the spring season, the best option is to start taking medication to counteract the effects of the pollen. Also, be aware of the time of day when pollen counts are highest.
